It’s Christmas time and the Perry Police Department is preparing to deliver gifts to local families through the Shop With A Cop Program.

What would normally be a weekend shopping trip with Perry officers has changed this year due to the pandemic. Instead of taking the kids out shopping Police Chief Eric Vaughn says they have come up with an alternative way to bring holiday cheer.

“What we have done instead is we are going to get lists from those kids and from their families and then we are going to have the officers go out and shop for those families by themselves so we’re not going out in large groups and so we can kind of protect ourselves and our health and then one day in a couple of weeks after we purchase those presents we are going to go and we are going to deliver them to the kids and the families at their homes.”

Also, Vaughn says if need be they may have the families pick up gifts. The hopes are the Shop With A Cop Program can get back to normal next year.
