A reminder that Greene County ISU Extension is gearing up for its first Ag Coffee event of the season.

Tomorrow’s informal discussion will be about dicamba. ISU Extension Agricultural Field Specialist Mike Witt will go over the facts about the product, along with understanding the changes with it, reviewing the new regulations and comparing figures from previous years to this year. Witt explains that dicamba has become a bigger issue due to its prevalence in the environment.

“Dicamba tolerant soybeans has made it so that it can be sprayed later on in the season. The other thing would be the timing. A lot of times dicamba products used to be used when crops were smaller, once before when soybeans were – shall we say – above ankle-high. So in those situations you could have some damage but it would grow out of it and you would never see it. Now when we’re spraying later on in the season, we can see more significant yield damage in there.”

The free Ag Coffee will be held tomorrow at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson from 9:30-11am. The event is sponsored by Peoples Bank and reservations are required to observe proper social distancing. Call the Extension Office at 515-386-2138 or stop by to signup.
