A Greene County agriculture business is seeking votes to garner a special award.
Greene County residents Bill Frederick and James Holz are owners of Iowa Cover Crop and they have made it to the top ten finalists for the Iowa Farm Bureau Grow Your Future Award. There are cash prizes for first through third place and the award is designed to support young agriculture entrepreneurs that are under 35 with a chance to grow their business. Frederick talks about what Iowa Cover Crop does.
“We put cover crops on the ground for farmers. We throw usually rye or oats out right before people harvest their grain. And then they grow through the winter, and it’s great for soil health and for water quality, and all sorts of good benefits.”
Frederick tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they had to submit a video about their business, which was selected as one of the ten finalists. The top six are then chosen by online voting. He was quick to give credit to his business partner Holz and his wife Melissa about an incentive if they were to win the contest.
“If James and I were to win this competition, we would do a polar plunge into our pond. We’ll live stream that or something on our Facebook page and Twitter or something. So yeah if you like the idea of seeing us go through pain make us win this competition and we’ll jump into an almost frozen pond.”
Online voting is going on now through December 17th. Click the link below to vote.
