It’s early in the high school basketball season, but when the PCM (Monroe) teams visit the Greene County Rams in the new high school gymnasium tomorrow night, the Mustangs will be seeking their first victories of the season. The PCM girls are 0-5 and the boys 0-4 and both are 0-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Both programs have winning traditions and to be a combined 0-9 is unusual.
Greene County is 1-1 in girls’ basketball and 0-2 on the boys’ side. The Rams lost their Heart of Iowa Activities Conference openers two nights ago vs. South Hamilton in Jewell. The girls’ final was 47-18 and the boys’ score was 51-37. Coach Todd Gordon’s girls are averaging 33.5 points on offense and giving up 36.5, while Coach Chris Nelson’s boys are at 43.5 on offense and 54.5 on defense. The Greene County boys have been playing without several players and will be shorthanded again tomorrow night, Saturday afternoon, and next Tuesday. The coach is hopeful to be at full strength for the Greene County Classic on Saturday, Dec. 19.
