A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for a December 2019 incident.

According to court documents, 53-year-old Christopher David Spaulding pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana and two serious misdemeanors for unlawful possession of a prescription medication. As per the plea agreement, Spaulding was sentenced to five years in prison for the felony conviction and one year in prison for each of the misdemeanor charges, all to be served concurrently.

The charges stem from an incident on December 20, 2019. Following a traffic stop for speeding, a Jefferson Police Officer noticed the smell of marijuana, and after a probable cause search, several drug items were seized.

Court records show Spaulding was also sentenced to an additional two years in prison for a probation revocation from a previous conviction of an aggravated misdemeanor incident in 2018, which will be served consecutively to the other five years in prison.
