The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board. He talked about a possible lawsuit from the Iowa State Association of Counties on abuse of opioids. The Board decided to review the matter with Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams before considering joining the lawsuit.
The Board then held a discussion about legal requirements during supervisor meetings. Laehn noted that if the supervisor meetings are held in person and the courthouse is open to the public, then they are not required to provide an electronic means for their meetings. However, there is a provision that during a public health emergency and in lieu of not having in person meetings, then electronic means are necessary. Laehn felt that since the courthouse was open and meetings were allowed for people to be in person, that was satisfactory.
The Board approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for November of $23,189. Additionally, the Board approved a memorandum of understanding for enhanced security with the County’s information technology services with the Office of the Chief Information Officer of Iowa. It was mentioned that the state wanted to install enhanced security features at no cost to the County.
The Board also heard a 2022 fiscal year funding request from RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program of $2,500. The Board took no action following the request. The Board then hired William Cloninger as a part-time ambulance driver for $20 per hour when called out and $4 per hour when on-call, along with hiring Heather Shipley and Janelle Elken as part-time registered nurses with exceptions for $10 per hour when called out and $4 per hour when on-call for the ambulance department. Finally, the Board approved all homestead and military exemption disallowances as presented.
