Greene County Medical Center has made some adjustments to services.
In a statement released by the medical center, the difficult decision was made to “close the Women’s Health Clinic which will result in the elimination of a provider.” The closure will take effect in February of 2021. Those services will be available with the providers in the Greene County Family Medicine Clinic. The medical center is continuing to review its contracts and will ensure they are efficiently and effectively utilizing taxpayer dollars.
Another decision that has been made is to temporarily suspend elective surgeries and procedures from December 19th-January 18th. The medical center states that “this action enables us to prepare for a potential surge of COVID-19 patients.” They believe that by suspending these services, it will allow for a redeployment of team members to help in other areas of the hospital.
The pandemic has caused the medical center to have staff shortages due to vacant positions and COVID-19 related illnesses. They feel that by mobilizing nursing staff to acute and long term care, they will be better equipped to handle COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. The medical center has not fired doctors, and as surgeries begin again mid-January, there will continue to be local access for general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry and cataracts.
