As the Perry School District is gearing up for their second semester, their goal is to bring everyone back on-site.
During their School Board meeting earlier this month, the Board decided to open discussion on how they want the second semester to look. The consensus was the more students receiving an in-person education, the better. Superintendent Clark Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that having kids at school gives them the best chance to succeed, “We need to offer off-site for those people who have a medical exemption, that’s the first thing. The second thing is all the students need to come back to on-site is what we’re looking at as we plan. So I want everyone to realize we’re going to finish the first semester strong. If you’re online or remote learning, continue to the very best you can, but we know the very best place we can offer our services is going to be on-site, here in the buildings.”
Several teachers and counselors spoke to the Board, informing them that there are students they have not been able to contact since the year started. High School Principal Dan Marburger specifically said there is a concerning amount of students falling behind. The Board and administration are currently working out the details and hope to approve the Return to Learn plan during their meeting next month.
