The spring semester at Des Moines Area Community College will look a bit different compared to years’ past.
Due to the concern of COVID-19, DMACC is pushing their spring semester start date one week back to January 19th, 2021. Because of the delay, there will be no spring break in March as originally scheduled. The spring semester’s conclusion remains on its initial date of Thursday, May 6th, 2021.
DMACC Perry Director Eddie Diaz tells Raccoon Valley Radio the first semester is going very well because of the work instructors have put into staying flexible during these unique times, “Some of them had some pretty extensive online experience, but some of them had to adjust. They did some trainings over the summer and they got some support, but it takes a lot of work to adjust how you operate from one semester to the next. I really appreciate their efforts.”
Diaz adds he’s impressed with how the students have responded to the adversity, “Ultimately, they’re the ones that we’re serving, and we want things to be successful for them. I think a vast majority have adjusted well and put forth the effort to be successful.”
The changes include all DMACC campuses and are subject to change. Enrollment is now underway for the spring semester. You can find more information on how to enroll in classes here.
