An anchor for the AC/GC defense this past season was recently named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Class 1A’s eighth-district.

AC/GC Junior Gavin Cornelison earned the honor as he was not just the Charger’s best player on defense, but showed dominance in a great district. Cornelison had 44.5 total tackles, 23 solo, and 6.5 for loss. It’s also worth noting that following an injury, Cornelison only played a few minutes in their first-round playoff win against Pleasantville and didn’t play at all the next week against Van Meter. As opponents prepare their offensive game plan next fall, they’ll have to work around #42 for one more year.
