After spending the boys’ basketball postseason in Class 3A last season, Greene County will compete in 2A in the 2021 postseason. The Rams had one of the smallest 3A enrollments last basketball season and faced a Glenwood team with nearly 200 students more in the top three grades of high school in a one-sided opening round district tournament loss.
For the upcoming basketball season, not only did Greene County drop a class to 2A, it’s not even close to 3A class size. The 259 students used for classification purposes is more than 40 short of the smallest 3A enrollment. That’s 300 for the top three grades at Clarke (Osceola). There are 11 programs in the state with 2A enrollments larger than Greene County’s, and a plethora of 2A programs are one hour or less driving time from Jefferson. That could mean less travel in the 2021 postseason for the Rams, instead of the 142 mile one-way trip last February on a school night to Glenwood.
