Today was to have been the official opening day of practice for the Greene County Rams in boys’ basketball and wrestling. The start of practices for those teams will be delayed, and practice for the Greene County girls’ basketball team is paused. The reason is the state rule prohibiting activities, be it practice or events, from taking place when a school district opts to go to 100% virtual learning. The Greene County school board voted last week to go 100% virtual learning starting today and going through Nov. 24. Thanksgiving break begins on Nov. 25 in the Greene County school.
Currently, boys’ basketball and wrestling practice will begin on Nov. 25, and girls’ basketball practice resumes on that date. The first Greene County basketball games were scheduled for Nov. 30 at home with Ogden, followed by a Dec. 1 road trip to Perry, but those games were pushed back. The scheduled opener is now Friday, Dec. 4 vs. Roland-Story (Story City) in the brand new high school gym in Jefferson. The make up date vs. Ogden is set for Saturday, Dec. 5 and make up games with Perry are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12. All those games are scheduled to be played in the afternoon.
Again this season, Greene County basketball play-by-play can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
