Greene County basketball players, coaches, and fans, will have to wait a bit longer than originally thought to hold the first basketball games in the new high school gym. With the school board announcement Wednesday morning that the district would go to 100% virtual learning from Nov. 16-24, that means no activities or practices can be held during that time. Girls’ basketball practice began Nov. 9, but the boys’ basketball and wrestling teams now won’t be able to begin until at least Nov. 25. That pushes back the original date for the first games in the new gym. The Rams will host Ogden on Saturday, Dec. 5 instead of Monday, Nov. 30.
Todd Gordon is both the activities director and girls’ head basketball coach. He talks about the new gym. “It’s a beautiful facility. Thanks to AAI we have some high quality hoops (the type used by NBA teams) in there on the main court. It should be exciting for them to walk into that gym. The space is great and that will create some enthusiasm, but we’re blessed to have a great facility to work in and work out in.”
Greene County basketball will be heard again this season on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
