The holiday season is around the corner, which means the 9th annual Raccoon Valley Radio Caring Christmas Food Drive is getting underway.

The Big Red Radio and Little Big Red Radio will be at an assortment of locations around the listening area throughout the next few months collecting donations to fill the local food pantries. The drive gets started Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at Hy-Vee in Winterset.

Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee says he works closely with local grocery stores and food pantries to ensure all the donations directly help our community, “It’s a three-pronged approach; it really does take everybody working together to help the food pantry. So we need you, our listeners, to come on out and donate food, donate cash to help the local food pantries. We’re there, we’re broadcasting live, we’re taking those donations, we’re taking the cash donations. We work with the grocery stores then to turn that cash into the needed food for our area food pantries. The local pantries provide us with a list of the goods and services that they need.”

McGee also reminds listeners that donating to the food drive will also enter you into the Caring Christmas cash giveaway. This year Raccoon Valley Radio will be giving away three $1,000 prizes, one on each of the three stations KDLS, KGRA, and KKRF. You can find all the ways to register for the grand prize online at here. Another new addition this year is the ability to donate virtually. Every Christmas Cash Call registration box will have a scannable QR code that will direct you to a secure donation website tied directly to the food pantry in the area. You can also donate online here.
