The Republican incumbent for Iowa House District 47 was re-elected to represent Greene and Boone counties last week.
Phil Thompson of Jefferson will be entering his second term as a state representative, having defeated Democrat challenger Shelly Stotts of Boone this past Tuesday. The U.S. Army veteran describes his reaction when he found out he won his re-election bid.
“It’s really humbling to be re-elected to be able to serve the community that raised me. So (I’m) incredibly grateful to everybody that showed their great support, and everybody that voted. (I’m) just really proud of this community, and I’m ready to go back, and to go to work, and to go to bat for them.”
The Jefferson native talks about what his top priority will be when he goes back to the Statehouse in January.
“Got some unfinished business there for sure. EMS (Emergency Medical Services) is going to continue to be my number one priority. Got that through the House 99-1 last time, and couldn’t quite get it through the Senate. You know, I’m having great conversations with our incoming Senator Jesse Green. And really looking forward to doing the work to get that through the Senate. But I’m confident we’ll get that through the House again, and bring some more resources to our EMS, especially in our rural areas.”
The 89th Iowa General Assembly begins January 11, 2021.
