East Lincoln Way walking trail from the county fairgrounds looking east

If you haven’t driven on East Lincoln Way in Jefferson for a while, it is looking quite different, and that’s because it is getting a makeover.

The contractor, Caliber Construction of Adair, is currently working on the third shared use path in the City. The first two projects were also shared use paths with concrete walking trails, including on Grauer Avenue to Greenewood Avenue, south of Ram Drive; and on West Central Avenue from Highway 4 to the west side of Walnut Avenue to the new Greene County High School. City Administrator Mike Palmer describes the work that is currently being done on East Lincoln Way.

“I think the contractor saw they had a pretty good window of weather, and they went ahead and started on the trail itself. So people going out there now can see that there’s a good window of weather the concrete (on the southside) should go down pretty fast. At the same time, they are also working on the northside of the road, (by) putting in more landscape islands as our (city engineer calls them. Again all of this work is being done within the right-of-way. So we’re not having to acquire any additional property.”

Palmer adds, the fourth shared use path project is to resurface the walking trail at Daubendiek Park, which will not begin until next year. The cost for all four projects is $877,039, which was part of the $2.4 million bond approved by the City Council last year.
