U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne

The Democratic incumbent for Iowa’s Third Congressional District Cindy Axne defeated Republican David Young for a second time in Tuesday’s general election, as two of Iowa’s other congressional districts went to Republicans and one other remained too close to call.

Axne tells Raccoon Valley Radio Wednesday morning that with the reaffirmation of District 3 she is going to continue to fight for what Iowans need, with the most immediate being COVID-19 relief. She said that “this is a starting point” for changes that need to be made in this country, and she comments on Iowa’s voter turnout, “Well, I certainly think Iowa did a great job in making sure that every voter had a voice. Folks who wanted to come out came out, everybody got an absentee ballot if they wanted one. I was grateful to see our Secretary of State make this as much as he possibly could a fair election. Obviously, it’s been tempered by the President’s statements. (I was) very saddened last night but of course not shocked that the President tried to preemptively say that this election has already gone for him, and this is the struggle that we face. We face too many people who don’t want to make sure that every vote is counted, who would prefer that if we suppress votes it might be better for them.”
