Justin Schmauss is less than two months into his first season at the helm of the ADM wrestling program, and he acknowledges that he still has to make some adjustments as he grows more comfortable with his head coaching role.
Schmauss reflects on how he feels things have gone for the Tigers under his tutelage to this point in the season.
“As far as the team goes and the way I’m running practices, I think I’m doing things right. Maybe we’ll pick up the intensity here as we go through the season–that’s what I was anticipating. Getting them ready and building a base, continuing to build on that foundation as we go… then we’ll ramp up the intensity and taper off at the end. So we’ll see if we can get some of these guys to start panning out.”
Schmauss explains a couple changes he and his assistants will be making as they move into the second half of their season.
“I want to start focusing more on scouting… As the guys adjust and figure out what weight they’re going to finish the year at as far as us and everybody else goes–knowing who we need to beat to get to where we want to be.”
Schmauss says the intensity level of his practices will ramp up starting today as his wrestlers begin to get ready for their first post-winter break match next Thursday. That meet will be at home against rival DC-G beginning at 6:30.
