Greene County head football coach Caden Duncan has been a head coach for two seasons, both with the Rams, and he’s compiled 16 wins and just five losses during his time at the helm. He told Raccoon Valley Radio 2019 and 2020 were so different because of expectations and who was on the team. Iowa State U. offensive line recruit Tyler Miller and several very talented players went to the Class 2A playoffs in 2018 under then head coach Mitch Moore, and in 2019 under the direction of Coach Duncan, the Rams advanced to the playoff quarterfinals.
Most of the starters graduated in 2020 and Coach Duncan and his staff had very few experienced varsity players to count on, yet the Rams went 7-3, finished second in District 9 and had a six game winning streak until losing in the round of 16 to top ranked PCM last Friday in Monroe. The coach said, “It’s a different type of challenge than what we had last year, but it’s extremely gratifying and I love the process of doing this just as much as being the top dog because we’ve seen so much development and improvement from so many different guys and that’s really fun for me to see as a coach. Seeing that gives us some assurance that we’re doing things right. Hopefully, moving forward we see more of that, and as I look back on the two years it’s definitely been fun and even though they’re both different experiences, they’re both great memories.”
There were only seven seniors this fall on the football team, so a lot of experience is due to return in 2021.
