Greene County continues to see increases in positive COVID-19 cases, but still haven’t experienced a COVID-19 related death.

According to the state dashboard as of Tuesday, Greene County is one of only six Iowa counties that have yet to record a COVID-19 related death. Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf gives her impression of that statistic.

“I am extremely thankful that we have not seen any deaths, especially in our elderly population, and the populations that are living in residential facilities, or in nursing homes, or our assisted living facilities.”

According to the state dashboard as of Tuesday, Greene County is once again leading the state with the lowest positivity rate of 7.5-percent for the last 14-days. About 55 Iowa counties are reporting 15-percent or higher positivity rate. Wolf notes that even with a low positivity rate, that doesn’t mean the number of positive cases is slowing down.

“You have to remember that every time that somebody is ill with COVID-19, and they have the potential – even before they know that they have it – they could be infecting two or three more people. And then those two or three people – if they become infected – they can go on and infect each two or three more people. So you can see how that multiplies with every layer of exposure.”

Wolf recommends continuing to do the preventative practices against further spreading the virus.
