The PCM Mustangs, ranked first or second in Class 2A Iowa high school football, depending on the poll, cruised to a 42-0 victory in Monroe on Friday night over Greene County in a round of 16 playoff game. The Mustangs improve to 9-0 while the Rams had their six game winning streak snapped and Coach Caden Duncan’s team finishes with a 7-3 record.
PCM had more than a three to one advantage in yardage and they returned both a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. The Rams never got inside the Mustangs’ 25 yard line and had just 112 yards of total offense unofficially. PCM unofficially gained 347.
The Rams had four turnovers to none for PCM. Quarterback Bryce Stalder threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. He was 1o for 24 passing for 59 yards and he ran for 24 yards on seven attempts. Nathan Black had 26 rushing yards on 10 carries. Jaxon Warnke was the top receiver with five catches for 35 yards.
The Mustangs had a balanced rushing attack with Sage Burns at 114 yards, quarterback Auggie Stock with 95, and Jacob VanWinkle with 50. Stock was 3-7-0 throwing for 97 yards with all three receptions by Gatlin Boell. One of the catches went for 36 yards and the first touchdown of the game. Stock ran for two scores, Burns had one, and Landon Fenton punt return of 71 yards and VanWinkle kickoff return for 80 yards accounted for the other touchdowns.
Greene County has just seven seniors on the roster, so the bulk of the team should return. The loss was just the seventh in 31 games for the Rams over the last three seasons.
