Relay for Life of Guthrie County celebrated cancer survivors while fundraising for cancer research at their garage sale event this weekend in Guthrie Center.

The organization decided to hold this year’s event at Eric and Jenna Morris’ red shed on School Street in order to cut costs and promote social distancing. While that meant hanging out in colder weather, Co-Chair Jenna Morris felt it was a successful event, “It’s a good feeling to be able to have something. We’ve been kind of, I would say, sheltered with this COVID stuff, not being able to do anything. But this is a good start, we’ve had a few fundraisers, small fundraisers earlier this year to bring in some money but this one is going to be I would say our big one.”

Besides selling second hand items, a grab-and-go meal was served, special treats were given to cancer survivors, and an in-person and online silent auction was held. You can find photos of the silent auction items on the Relay for Life of Guthrie County Facebook page, and make donations year-round to the organization at Guthrie County State Bank.
