The Perry City Council reviewed the status of funded activities for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Response and Recovery Grant during their regular meeting Monday.

More than $20,000 of grant funding has been distributed to various community entities to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the ways the funds have positively impacted the community is that the Perry Public Library could hand out more than 3,000 free books. Mayor John Andorf says he was able to see this in action, “I was fortunate enough to be out there a day or two when books were passed out. The books were great books, and the staff passing them out tried to match what the child’s (reading) levels were to what book they were interested in. It’s just a great all-around process for getting the books and matching them with people who got them. It’s just really great.

Other entities that have benefited from the funding include the Perry Area Food Pantry, Perry Parks and Recreation, and Perry Lutheran Homes. The Council also held a public hearing and approved the sale of City land between two current property owners. A rebid for the Perry Municipal Airport fuel system upgrade project was awarded to Seneca Companies Inc. for $251,980. Other items approved by the Council include the final plat for Magnolia Park, miscellaneous garbage fees, and the authorization of the sale for an outdated pickup truck.
