During National Teen Safe Driving Week, law enforcement officials remind young drivers to be aware and have on-hand necessary paperwork to be a legal driver.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the most important aspects for parents and guardians to be aware that those who just may have a learner’s or instructional permit are the driving restrictions.

“Some of them can have passengers, some of them can’t, some of them can drive after dark, and some can’t. Just make sure your kids are well aware of their restrictions, especially the school permits. We’re seeing some issues with those, where the kids are picking up friends, and they can’t. It has to be a direct route from home to school, or to the event that they’re going to. They can’t detour in any way.”

Williams reminds teen drivers to always make sure you have your driver’s license or permit, as well as a copy of the vehicle’s insurance and registration whenever you drive your vehicle.
