A presentation on the Lenon Mill Dam was given to the Panora City Council Monday.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources River Programs Director Nate Hoogeveen attended the meeting virtually to present on the issues that dams present and what possible new structures could be built with a $75,000 Resource Enhancement and Protection grant the City received in 2018 as well as $18,200 in cost-share funding for the exploratory and design phase of the project. No action was taken by the Council, but the next steps discussed included settling on an approach that the City’s residents and the DNR, which owns the area, agrees upon. In other Council business, they approved enrolling Police Officer Rock Armstrong in the Gracie Survival Tactics training at a cost of $1,330. They also approved an updated 28E agreement for mutual assistance with Dallas County area fire/rescue services, and approved an insurance premium renewal for City employees with Wellmark, with a 15.35% rate decrease.
