The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors was updated Tuesday on district court procedures as they are being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

County Attorney Brenna Bird explained that a written agreement to use the First Baptist Church for jury selection across the street from the courthouse did not need the Supervisors’ approval as urgently as originally expected, as the first jury trial scheduled for October 20th will no longer happen as the defendant did not show up at the status conference. Bird also updated the Board on Audubon County’s search for a new county attorney, as she and Assistant John Twillmann are currently filling in for those duties, and the Audubon County Board of Supervisors have voiced interest in forming a 28E agreement if they don’t find a suitable candidate. She said they have extended their application deadline through October 19th. She also mentioned that County Facilities Manager Brandon Thompson is installing a plexiglass barrier in between the court reporter’s desk and witness stand in the courtroom, and her office has been flagging any expenses that could possibly be reimbursed from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
