In one of its highest finishes in recent years, Greene County finished in second place on Monday in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference boys’ cross-county race at Saydel High School in Des Moines. Nevada was first with 36 points and the Rams were at 61. South Hamilton (Jewell) had 65, Roland-Story (Story City) 80, West Marshall (State Center) 150, Saydel (Des Moines) 157, and PCM (Monroe) 169.

The Rams were led by junior Logan Woodruff with a fifth place finish in 18:03 for the five kilometers (3.1 miles). Sophomore Ethan Frederick was ninth in 18:52, followed by Jayden Carstensen, 10th in 19:03, fifteenth place finisher Dakota Mobley in 19:32, and Ethan Larsen was 22nd in 22:00.

Jeff Lamoureux is the head coach of the Rams. He told Raccoon Valley Radio,
I can’t say enough about the progress the boys have made. We knew we had an outside shot at taking the conference title, but tomorrow was just too strong tonight. With the bulk of our top runners returning next year, we fell we’ll have a shot at a conference title next year.”

The Rams had just three girls compete, not enough for a team score. Olivia Shannon was 42nd in 26:06, followed by Makala Kafer was 43rd in 26:07, and Autumn Stevens was 52nd in 27:50. The coach said the girls continue to improve and all three ran this same course faster Monday than at Saydel’s Invitational meet last Thursday.
