The first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball victory for Greene County took place on Monday night in the new gymnasium in Jefferson. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams defeated South Hamilton (Jewell) in three straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-13. The Rams improved to 6-15 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Hawks are 8-19, 1-4.
The Rams were down 5-10 in set one before rallying to go ahead at 17-16. After a 17-17 tie, the Rams pulled away for the victory. Set two saw the Rams lead much of the set, but not by more than three points. After falling behind 20-21, the Rams scored five of the final six points. The last set saw the score tied 6-6 before the Rams went ahead to stay. A 12-10 lead turned into a win by 12 points.
Greene County closes the regular season tonight with conference opponent Saydel (Des Moines) in the new high school gym in Jefferson.
