Residents in southeast Guthrie County will be voting for who to represent them in the November 3rd election.

Democrat Eric Tiernan and Republican incumbent Mike Dickson are running for the District 5 seat. Tiernan owns multiple businesses including Stuart Realty and the Stuart Fremont Theatre. He’s previously served on the Stuart-Menlo School Board and Stuart City Council, and has considered running for county supervisor for several years. Tiernan says he has no specific agenda or grudges when it comes to running for the seat, “I just think that the area here could be represented better. We are going to have to really work on roads and bridges because as farm equipment is getting so large and farmers are getting larger and I don’t know if the County is being able to keep up with that and they need their way to market. I also want to work on trying to bring industry to the county and employment, because if you don’t have employment, people aren’t going to live here and help our communities grow, in that respect.”

Dickson has served multiple terms as supervisor, and he co-owns both a family farm and farm equipment company. If reelected, Dickson says there are several areas he’d like to continue to focus on, including the law enforcement center addition, road projects, and information technology security, “I would like to continue to focus on the efforts of economic development, however I want to approach it as an investment into our community as a whole. I don’t believe in handing out investments that only benefit a select base. Economic development needs to be approached as targeted activities and programs that improve the quality and well being of the community by helping to create jobs and increasing our tax base.”
