The cause of last Saturday night’s fire in Grand Junction remains under investigation.

Several fire departments responded to a business and homestead fire at 8:53pm 19th and on Percival streets, east of the Janco Motel. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio they believed the fire originated from an utility-terrain vehicle that was between the business shop area and the homestead. However, the cause remains under investigation, but Williams believes the fire to be accidental in nature.

Williams notes the property owner, Doug Moranville, was in the shop area when the fire began and was able to get out safely. Williams says both structures, as well as the UTV and a camper were total losses. No one was hurt from the incident.

Grand Junction Assistant Fire Chief Bret Kersey says when they first got on scene of the fire, the homestead portion was completely engulfed in flames. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the biggest concern was a propane tank on the north side of the structures, which they were able to remove before it exploded. Kersey thanks all of the agencies that were involved, and the teamwork that was provided that evening.

The Grand Junction, Jefferson, Scranton, Churdan, Rippey, Paton, Perry and Ogden fire departments, along with Greene County Ambulance, Grand Junction Rescue and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
