The Jefferson City Council recently held its annual budget priority workshop for the next fiscal year.
City Administrator Mike Palmer says the priority workshop allows council members to decide what they think should be the City’s top priorities for projects and services to allocate funding towards the upcoming fiscal year. The Council deemed water and sewer line improvements as the City’s top priority. Palmer shares his thoughts on these projects heading into the 2022 fiscal year.
“People certainly recognize that that’s a big requirement. There was also a lot of talk too about high priorities for facility replacement and improvements. We know we have a sewer plant upgrades to do, and we talked about a water plant upgrades too. Those get to be very expensive propositions, but we wanted to keep those on the burner.”
The Council ranked 29 other projects, with animal shelter and housing as the other top priorities. Palmer makes another observation about the list of priorities.
“Just because (some) maybe ranked as a lower priority, doesn’t mean that it’s not important. It may mean that the Council is satisfied that we’re on the right track. They just said, ‘Keep it on the priority (list) but we’re confident that it’s being taken care of.”
