Greene County went 0-3 in matches and 1-6 in sets on Saturday in the new high school gym at their own tournament. The Rams lost to Boone in three sets to start the day, then fell in two straight to both Stanton and Grinnell. The Rams fell to 5-14 on the season.
The Rams lost the first point in all seven sets they played. Against Boone in set one, they were behind by eight points before getting on the board. Greene County lost 16-25, before winning 25-21 in set two. A seven point lead dropped to one, but the Rams closed out the set with a Brianna Osterson ace serve. Set three was to 15 points and the Rams and Toreadors were tied 6-6 before Boone went on to win 12-15.
Stanton, a Class 1A power from Southwest IA was next and the Rams lost 15-25, 16-25. The score in set one was tied 9-9 before the Viqueens took over. Set two was the opposite with the Rams down 9-18, then playing Stanton even from that point.
The largest lead Greene County had all day was 12 points at 20-8 over Grinnell in the first set. The Rams were out scored 18-4 after leading 20-8 and lost the set 24-26. Set two had the Tigers up all the way except for an early 2-2 tie with a final of 20-25.
On the day, Stanton was 3-0, Grinnell 2-1, Boone 1-2, and Greene County 0-3.
