Despite being closed to the public, the Perry Public Library continues to serve the community.

The Library initially closed in the spring amid concerns over COVID-19. The closure continued as construction began on a remodeling project that’ll feature new flooring, renovated bathrooms, and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) friendly entrance. The latest update showed the installation of new flooring in the staff and the large meeting room.

The Library has kept engaged with patrons through remote programs, including a community helper storytime unit. Children between the ages of 2-5 are invited to participate in the free program over Zoom. Sessions will be held each Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. until 11 a.m. This program will educate children on the different roles needed in a community, and they’ll learn about the jobs of doctors, dentists, police officers, firefighters, and other community figures. Free activity kits are available weekly for curbside pickup.

Another program offered is the Family Evening Pumpkin Party. Participants will receive a free kit containing a pumpkin, craft supplies, and ingredients to make a snack. Kids will be able to show off their work during a Zoom party at 6 p.m., Thursday, October 8th.
