Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tiger football traveled to one of their main rivals on Friday night against #1 state ranked Dallas Center – Grimes, and despite a terrific defensive effort, fell short by the score of 16-14 after DCG hit a last second field goal.
Freshman backup kicker Ben Jackson stepped up in a big way in the final minute for the Mustangs, as he hit a field goal for 23 yards to help give DCG the win.
ADM giving up 16 points on the game was their best scoring defense they had on the season, as their tremendous effort helped keep the team in the game, and give them a chance to win in the end.
Tiger offense has a stiff challenge against one of the best defenses in the state, but they were able to manufacture a score in the first half thanks to a Tate Stine-Smith scamper from two yards. The Tigers in the fourth were down six, and they converted on a 4th and 10 to junior Matt Dufoe, who caught it inside the red zone. A couple of plays later, Stine-Smith threw a 17 yard touchdown on a great catch from sophomore Vince Benetti.
DCG stepped up and were able to drive down the next possession to get the score. ADM had one final shot but threw an interception to end the game.
DCG will go to 5-0 on the season while ADM falls to 2-4. ADM will play their final regular season game next week when they take on the Bluejays of Perry.
