The Greene County 4-H program is celebrating National 4-H Week in a big way.

The Greene County 4-H Foundation recently launched a $10,000 fundraising campaign to recoup the money lost from not having the Clover Cafe open, due to the county fair being cancelled because of COVID-19. According to Foundation President Loel Larson, there have been several donations already made to pursue this goal. Dr. Steve and Julie Karber donated $2,500, the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association gave $595, while the Greene County Lamb and Pork producers each contributed $420 and $400 respectively

Local business Shine On Design/More Time in Jefferson donated $1,040 from the t-shirt sales from county fair shirt purchases in support of the 4-H’ers. If you want to contribute to the cause, checks can be made payable to the Greene County 4-H Foundation and dropped off at the Extension office in Jefferson.

Other activities that Greene County 4-H’ers are involved with this week includes a pumpkin decorating contest, wear your 4-H t-shirt and post it on social media using #GC4HGrowsleaders2020, and decorating a business’ storefront window. Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about that contest.

“We encourage clubs to go out, ask for a business owner’s permission, to decorate their windows, whether that be in the community that you reside in, or where the club meets. Spread the word about the importance of 4-H. The winners will receive a free pizza party.”

National 4-H Week is from October 4th-10th.
