A popular youth program is happening next weekend with Greene County ISU Extension.

Babysitting Basics is for any 5th-8th grader that is interested in learning more about childcare and resources of how to take care of younger children. Topics that will be covered include babysitting responsibilities and what employers expect, ideas to entertain children, handling emergencies, first aid and safety information, and caring for children of different ages. Extension Director Lori Mannel says there will be lots of speakers that are involved as well.

“We bring in the peace officers, we bring in the fire department, we bring in public health. We bring outside speakers in so they (the kids) can learn how to handle emergencies and feed children. We are limiting this to ten individuals for social distancing.”

The class will be from 10am-4pm on Saturday, October 10th at the Extension office in Jefferson. The cost to participate is $50. Call the Extension office at 515-386-2138 or stop by to sign up.
