As the youth and disabled deer hunting seasons wrap up, deer archery season is now underway.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the early deer archery season is from now through December 4th. The early muzzleloader season will be from October 17th-25th. Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says those wanting to hunt deer must remember to wear blaze orange.
“A hat won’t do, you have to have a minimum of a vest. It’s very common sense, the better seen that you are, the safer it is. Most people keep that in mind and you see very few hunters out there trying to get by without wearing that. Deer are colorblind anyway. They’re more in-tuned to motion so you’re not really jeopardizing yourself by wearing that hunter orange.”
Towers reminds hunters to make sure they have a valid hunting license. You can purchase a hunting license at the Greene County Recorder’s Office for $22 and a habitat stamp for $15.
