As West Central Valley students navigate an ever fluid school year due to COVID-19, one student will be able to voice their thoughts at school board meetings as a student representative.

Senior Gavin Dupuy was selected to sit on the Board this school year after six students applied and interviewed for the position. A Dexter resident, Dupuy is also involved in the school’s drama, speech, and band departments. He shares what he hopes to get out of being the student representative, “Diplomacy, democracy, I like being heard. I guess I want to be able to be an effective communicator. I know a lot of people around the school district probably aren’t the best communicators, and that’s something everyone can improve on, not pointing any fingers of course but I just figured this is my spot to help, might as well.”

Dupuy is also on track to receive an Associate’s degree from Des Moines Area Community College by the time he graduates high school this spring. Dupuy attended his first Board meeting last week and already proved useful during discussion on fundraising for the Ireland student trip.
