It’s week three of the high school Fall sports seasons, but for Greene County High School, this is the first week all its varsity teams will be in action. In addition, many of the teams below the varsity level will have competition as well.

The varsity calendar has the volleyball Rams in action three times this week, all away from Jefferson as the Rams await the completion of the gymnasium at the new high school. Tomorrow night, coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams open Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play in Monroe vs. PCM. On Thursday, they’ll face Class 3A number 11 Roland-Story in Story City, then on Saturday, it’s a trip to Hubbard and the South Hardin Middle School building for the South Hardin Tournament.

The cross-country Rams host their only home meet of the season on Thursday at Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction. More than 15 schools are scheduled to have their middle school and high school girls and boys run at the Greene County meet.

It’s the second of three straight home football games on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson as the Rams open Class 2A District 9 action by hosting the Atlantic Trojans. Both teams are 1-1 on the season and Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www. raccoonvalleyradio.com. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
