Greene County opened the high school football season with a 49-0 victory at Perry and had good balance on offense between the run and the pass. In the 34-7 loss on Friday night to South Central Calhoun (Lake City) at Linduska Field in Jefferson, that balance was missing. Of the Rams’ 239 yards of total offense, 200 came through the air with just 39 on the ground. Head coach Caden Duncan would like to see that balance return this Friday night when Greene County opens Class 2A District 9 play in Jefferson vs. Atlantic.
Junior quarterback Bryce Stalder led the Rams on the ground vs. SCC with 10 carries for 36 yards. A modest total, but at halftime Greene County had been held to minus 8 yards rushing as a team.
Stalder also threw the ball 33 times, completing 14, including a 12 yard touchdown toss to senior Jaxon Warnke. The Ras aren’t afraid to throw the ball, but Coach Duncan ideally would like to play with the lead and not be forced into as many passing situations as the Rams were vs. the Titans.
Atlantic is 1-1 on the season and is coming off a 21-10 victory in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic. Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
