Eleven Iowa counties have been approved for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance Program, out of the 27 counties Governor Kim Reynolds had requested assistance in her request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the August 10th derecho.
For counties in the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area, only Dallas has been approved for Public Assistance funding by President Trump, which covers public entities and select nonprofit organizations. Congresswoman for Iowa’s Third District Cindy Axne comments on the 10 counties that were approved this week for individual assistance, “I’m glad of course that the President did approve our state for federal disaster, but he did tell us that he signed a “full request” that was made by Governor Reynolds, and that’s what we would all like to see, what the Governor fully requested and we didn’t receive. So we’re starting to see a little bit trickle in, recently FEMA announced 10 new counties have been approved for individual assistance including Polk County that’s in our district, but we’ve got people throughout the district who have been affected so I’d like to see other counties like Dallas and others that have been impacted to make sure they get the funding they need.”
The Individual Assistance Program provides disaster-affected homeowners, renters, and businesses with programs and services to maximize recovery. You can hear more from Representative Axne during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
