The West Central Valley (Stuart) coed cross-country meet in Redfield tomorrow will be the first meet of the season for the Greene County High School girls and boys. Coach Jeff Lamoureux has just seven girls out for the sport, but 17 boys, more than what is needed to fill both a varsity and JV squad.

There aren’t many seniors on either team, but one returning senior letter winner is Luis Velezco. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about his cross-country goals. “I just want to do better than last year and give it my all since it’s my last year. Maybe hit under 18 (minutes for five kilometers) for a season best.”

About the number of boys out for the sport, he said, “I think that’s great. It gives us more opportunities to do better at meets. With more runners we push each other and more people we can count on. It’s great to have more people on the team.”

The Rams will host their one home meet of the season at Spring Lake State Park northeast of Jefferson on Thursday, Sept. 10.
