The Bill Franey Open Golf Tournament was held over the weekend in Jefferson at the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course. Wade Pettitt of Carroll won the event shooting 105 (4 under par) for 27 holes. It was Pettitt’s third Bill Franey Open title and he won by fellow three-time champion Craig Mertz. Both are from Carroll.

All golfers played 18 holes, then the low 12 scores and ties qualified for the final championship nine holes. Dean Dozier and Chris Nelson, both of Jefferson, qualified for the final nine holes, but did not play.

Proceeds from the tournament support a scholarship given annually to a student training to be an electric lineman at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. The late Bill Franey was a lineman for 31 years and served as line superintendent for another 10 years for Midland Power/Greene County REC in Jefferson.
