Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools have released more information on the confirmed positive COVID-19 case in their high school in effort to mitigate the effects of any future positive cases.

In a letter sent Tuesday, Superintendent Dennis McClain states that they received a phone call from Guthrie County Public Health on Monday that one of their students had tested positive for COVID-19. McClain says that while they are disappointed that it happened on the first day of school, they did learn that steps they have taken at school helped to mitigate the spread. Through contact tracing, most of the 11 individuals who were quarantined were on the varsity volleyball team and were quarantined because they sat together while watching the junior varsity teams play at a scrimmage on Friday. They are reviewing their game-time procedures to further protect their student athletes. Activities Director Cody Matthewson also announced that the varsity volleyball team has been placed on a 14 day quarantine which will expire on Tuesday, September 8th. Three games that were scheduled during this time have been postponed and the District is working continuously to reschedule them.

McClain reminds families to implement personal protective measures to continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including staying home when sick or someone in your family becomes ill, washing your hands frequently and wearing a mask when you cannot stay six feet away from others.
