The 2020 Iowa high school football season begins this evening, and just like most things, it will look different compared to years past.

Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Activities Director Rod Wiebers says ADM will be limiting capacity to football games. One way they’re doing so is having an online pre-sale system and will not be selling tickets at the game. Families of student-athletes will receive first priority when it comes to admission, then a certain amount of students will be able to attend, then the public will have access to tickets. Perry Activities Director Scott Pierce tells Raccoon Valley Radio there’s been a lot of work and effort put in to make Dewey Field a safe environment for spectators, “To say it’s been busy and hectic is an understatement. Things just seem to keep changing as far as reaching out to (Dallas County Public Health) and getting their guidance. They’re main guidance has been reviewing the proclamation sent out by (Governor) Kim Reynolds and the one she just extended as far as social distancing and keeping families in pods.”

Pierce adds Perry will not have any spectator restrictions. According to Pierce, the key factor in that decision was that the visitor’s bleachers used to be Perry’s home side. So it is much larger, and can accommodate for more social distancing than the typical set of visiting seats. There will be seating taped off to encourage distance between families.
