The high school Fall sports seasons for Greene County High start this week, despite the ongoing pandemic. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s volleyball Rams get things going with a triangular at Glidden tomorrow. The Rams face a pair of Class 1A non-conference opponents in Collins-Maxwell and Glidden-Ralston. Greene County has not had a winning season in volleyball in the eight seasons playing as Greene County. Three seniors return as letter winners, and three sophomores are returning letter winners.

The Rams were scheduled to open the cross-country season today at Jester Park Golf Course for the Woodward-Granger meet, but that was cancelled due to August 10 storm damage on the course. Next up for Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s harriers is the West Central Valley meet on Sept. 3.

Greene County football kicks off the seven game regular season this Friday in Perry at Dewey Field vs. the Blue Jays. It’s the renewal of the “Cowbell” series, one of Iowa’s oldest rivalries and trophy games. Coach Caden Duncan starts his second season at the helm. Friday’s football game at 7:15 p.m. can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
