The renewal of the “Cowbell”series between Greene County and Perry is just one week away. The series is one of Iowa’s oldest, along with one of the state’s more traditional “trophy” games with an actual cowbell from 1928 going to the winning team. The Aug. 28 football contest is at Dewey Field in Perry this year and both teams have a number of questions to answer heading into the season.

The Rams graduated a number of two and three year starters and have a number of positions to be filled by newcomers. Greene County went a combined 17-4 the past two seasons and qualified for the Class 2A playoffs in both 2018 and ’19, and advanced to the quarterfinals a season ago.

Caden Duncan is in his second season as a head coach and second season with the Rams. Bryce Pierce is in his first year as head coach of the Blue Jays and he inherits a program that hasn’t won a game since 2017.

The Rams and Blue Jays can be heard on KG98, KDLS 1310 AM and 99.7 FM on August 28 to begin the Iowa high school football season.
