Despite last week’s derecho storm that brought some measurable rainfall to the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, extreme drought conditions continue.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, extreme drought conditions remain in most of Greene and Guthrie counties, along with the northwestern third of Dallas County. The northeast corner of Greene County, the southeast corner of Guthrie County and two-thirds of Dallas County are under a severe drought. The southeast corner of Dallas County is experiencing moderate drought.

According to the National Weather Service for the month of August, Jefferson has had 2.29 inches of precipitation, Perry has 1.93 inches and Guthrie Center reports 1.22 inches.
