The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, Greene County Ambulance Director Michelle Madsen brought up a concern about an air conditioning unit at the ambulance facility. The Board asked her to get estimates for a replacement. She also said the facility had some shingles torn off from last Monday’s storm.
Then County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board. He mentioned a significant bench trial that is taking place this Thursday, where the judge will serve as both judge and jury at the defendant’s request. He is also conducting an open conversation with several other local entities about coordinating efforts when it comes to mental health cases and trying to bring back a community services program for adult offenders.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers said there was no structural damage to any of the county parks following last week’s storm. There were several trees down but all parks remain open, along with the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
The Board then heard an update on the Greene County Animal Shelter project. Organizer Don Orris told the Board their fundraising campaign has collected $592,000. He said due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other projects happening in Jefferson, the planning committee has decided to move forward with a metal building instead of a brick structure to save costs. The Board took no action following the update.
The Board then unanimously approved a resolution endorsing the use of face coverings in Greene County to mitigate the transfer of COVID-19. The Board also approved a letter of support of the Iowa Nutrient Research and Education Council’s North Raccoon River Wetlands Initiative to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The Board voted 3-1 in favor with Supervisor Tom Contner being the dissenting vote. He thought the proposal from the North Raccoon River Watershed Management Coalition was getting to be too big of an entity and he didn’t trust them. Supervisor Mick Burkett was absent from the meeting.
