Tree damage in Panora.
Monday morning’s severe thunderstorm left plenty of fallen tree limbs, damaged power lines, and a house fire in its wake in Guthrie County.
No one was injured in the fire that occurred in Panora as reported earlier by Raccoon Valley Radio, which was started by a lightning strike and inflicted damage mainly to the kitchen. Many residents were left without power Monday, as Alliant Energy reported hundreds of customers without power in the county. The National Weather Service confirms an outbuilding had its roof blown off southwest of Bagley, and a mobile home was also reported to have lost its roof in Bagley, according to Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf. He mentions other damage that occurred Monday, “A lot of crop damage in the northern part of the county, a lot of corn fields that the corn has been bent completely over.”
Kempf advises anyone to not drive over or come near any possible downed power lines as crews continue to resolve these issues. He adds that anyone with major property damage and in need of assistance can contact his office at 641-332-3030. Stuart City Hall informs the public that anyone wishing to dispose of yard waste from the storm can drop them off at the south pond from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, otherwise you can reach the public works director at 515-523-1455.
